Someone Saved My Life Tonight - Elton John Lyrics [on screen]

The Ride to Nowhere

Me and my dog Frosty

My car had overheated on my way home from work, and I had gotten out of the car.  It was steamy in Houston, and a man pulled up and asked if I wanted a ride.  It was unlike me, but I jumped into his car.  We drove down the road and he did not say much.  He never asked where I needed to go, but I had a sick feeling that all was not right.

He was an older man wearing with a ruddy complexion, wearing a large white cowboy hat.  I was a naive brown eyed girl with long brown hair and in my twenty’s.

As we drove along I realized I had made a mistake and felt panicky.  I knew I needed to escape before it was too late.   His back seat was stacked with beer cans.  I wondered why I had gotten into the car.

Suddenly, we got in more traffic and I became very uneasy.  How would I leave?  In a matter of seconds his car died.  He could not start it. He tried over and over.  Quickly, I jumped out of the car and ran.  I was free and never looked back.

His car stopped for some unknown reason.  The only explanation was divine intervention.  That day I was lucky, and perhaps my life was saved.

From that day on I had believed that angels surround us.
